BYOB Showcase Brisbane - 2nd October’25
We kicked off with why BYOB exists: put good people in a room, tell the truth about building, and leave with a next step you can actually take.
Panel - Johnathan Maltby, Elena Chirich & Darren Jansz
Johnathan Maltby: Named the leap from 9–5 and what he stopped doing to make room for progress. Shared a simple “first 30–60 days” path: one offer, one channel, one clear ask—and the early proof that earned his first real yes.
Elena Chirich: Showed how she turned two decades of experience into pathways for young founders. Her message landed: learning is good, but doing (with mentors and small wins) changes everything.
Darren Jansz: Spoke plainly about the messy first months and the identity shift from employee to owner. He kept it human: protect your energy, keep promises small, and let momentum compound.
Keynote — Bryan Drennan (The Recovery Run)
Bryan’s story moved the room. From life-saving open-heart surgery to rebuilding one step at a time and he mapped how “start small, aim big” becomes a life and a business. The takeaway was clear and practical: pick a bold goal, design a week you can keep, and let community make hard things lighter.
What people took away
The leap is personal - make it yours, then make it small enough to start.
One offer, one message, one ask beats twelve half-moves.
Proof early: a tiny result, a demo, or a case you can point to.
A week you can actually keep will beat a perfect plan every time.
Community matters; the right room shortens the road.
Nights like this are why BYOB exists builders backing builders, one step at a time.
