Beer, the drink of the Gods. Well my Gods at least. You may think it strange for me to write about my love of beer at the same time as health and fitness, but I believe it is vital to explore the areas you enjoy in life and I enjoy beer - so much so I made my very own mobile application Closest Beer so I would never be too far from one!
My love of beer probably comes from living in Australia where it is part of our culture for men to get together and drink. When we drink, it's often beer because it's hot and it matches our food.
Beer isn't unhealthy for you in moderation, in fact it can be great for reducing stress and thinning your blood. However, it's high in calories (as all alcohol is) so I drink only a few at a time and exercise to stay in shape. I also try to have at least 2-3 no beer days a week.
The reason I talk about beer is that it is representative of letting yourself enjoy life. I believe it is better to indulge in have what you enjoy than deny yourself. When you have it, relish it, enjoy it - don't feel guilty. If you deny yourself what you really enjoy, generally you will feel bitter about it or binge. That's not healthy. It's way better for your life, your health and your spirit to enjoy yourself when you feel like it but be mature and deal with the consequences.
So what do you really love that you are denying yourself? Do it I say, love it and manage any downsides. I drink and I run. In fact I need to run now so I can have one tonight cheers!
